The Fielder Guide — Issue 3 | Autumn 2026

October 14th 2026

Welcome to the Autumn Edition of the Fielder Guide.

Autumn is naturally a season of change and brings much to do for growers, as we move from harvesting the old to preparing for the new. As well as the seasonal agronomy changes, we’re noticing glimmers of change in what’s been a difficult growing landscape for some time – while input costs remain stubbornly high and growing conditions have been challenging, there are signs of new technology and innovation which have the potential to improve future commercial performance.

In this edition we look at the autumn agronomy of managing OSR into winter, securing hardiness and early growth. In our sustainability and business resilience section we reflect on our takeaways from the UK Precision Breeding conference and also consider the impacts of climate volatility for elite turf growers – both extreme heat and drought.

Our interview with agronomist and farmer Matt Jones explores autumn growing challenges and how agronomy is changing.
